Our Story

It starts with Camino PR’s namesake, the Antonio Machado poem, “Caminante no hay camino” (Wanderer, There Is No Path). Capturing the wandering and persevering spirit, the poem calls for the reader to create their path by walking it.

The “Camino” spirit of changing the world with bravery and conviction began with Pima Community College. Founded in 1966, classes began before there were even classrooms available- living rooms, garages and airplane hangars were all used at one point in time.

Opportunities for students (classrooms, funding, learning resources) were organized in any way they could be, mostly with the help of family. The dream was to provide an education for local groups that would otherwise never get the chance. Pima’s mission was evident in its first ever graduating class of 28 Native American students. Following through on Pima Community College to its realization was a true testament to the power of walking your own path, and shaping the world as you go.

Members of the family that helped create PCC, along with close industry companions, would eventually start Camino Public Relations with the same vision and principles in 2009.

Camino Creative was launched in 2020, during one of the most tumultuous years for public discourse in the nation’s history. The practice built on a long history of the award-winning Camino PR using messaging and media strategies to tackle the greatest human rights issues of our time.

“Caminante, son tus huellas
el camino y nada más;
Caminante, no hay camino,
se hace camino al andar.
Al andar se hace el camino,
y al volver la vista atrás
se ve la senda que nunca
se ha de volver a pisar.
Caminante, no hay camino
sino estelas en la mar.”

Traveler, your footprints
are the only road, nothing else.
Traveler, there is no road;
you make your own path as you walk.
As you walk, you make your own road,
and when you look back
you see the path
you will never travel again.
Traveler, there is no road;
only a ship’s wake on the sea.

Camino Creative employs new ways to use art to lift social commentary in the midst of disinformation and disillusionment. We believe art should be for social good.
